From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. In education, a teacher is a person who educates others. A teacher who educates an individual student may also be described as a personal tutor. The role of teacher is often formal and ongoing, carried out by way of occupation or profession at a school or other place of formal education. In many countries, a person wishing to become a teacher at state-funded schools must first obtain professional qualifications or credentials from a university or college. These professional qualifications may include the study of pedagogy, the science of teaching. Teachers may use a lesson plan to facilitate student learning, providing a course of study which covers a standardized curriculum. A teacher's role may vary between cultures. Teachers teach literacy and numeracy, or some of the other school subjects. Other teachers may provide instruction in craftsmanship or vocational training, the Arts, religion or spirituality, civics, community roles, or life skills. In some countries, formal education can take place through home schooling. Informal learning may be assisted by a teacher occupying a transient or ongoing role, such as a parent or sibling or within a family, or by anyone with knowledge or skills in the wider community setting. Religious and spiritual teachers, such as gurus, mullahs, rabbis pastors/youth pastors and lamas may teach religious texts such as the Quran, Torah or Bible. From Wikipedia under the

Answered by John L - Mon Jun 9 12:19:54 2008 How do you reconcile Aristotle's Golden Mean with Jesus Christ's teachings? Q. Aristotle teaches that we must choose the Golden Mean in every situation, that which is not in excess or is deficient. However, Jesus Christ teaches that we must sell all of our possessions, give up everything (even our lives) for our neighbor. How do you reconcile the two teachings? Asked by sputnik - Tue Jan 6 02:12:21 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I think you could probably reconcile the two by shifting the framework of the mean. Christ thought that the way in which most people live is extreme hedonism; it's reasonable to assume that death is extreme deprivation; therefore, a life of sacred poverty and solitary contemplation is the mean between the two. I say that death is the extreme with regard to deprivation because Christ didn't necessarily require that man die in all situations - indeed, he wanted to teach men how to *live* well. He certainly thought that death is necessary in some cases, but probably not in the majority of them. Q. Who is Zoroaster and why are his teachings unique? how does his beliefs help the development of persian religion? what influence if any, might Zoroastrianism have on later judaism and christianity? Asked by VBbabe - Thu Oct 23 00:33:00 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I smell homework...Zoroaster is credited for having created monotheism, although his god, Ahura Mazda, had aspects of both good and evil, the evil being Angra Maynu. And then there was Mithra, the guy who judged you when you died. Zoroastrianism is credited for giving Judaism the ideas for monotheism, hell, Satan, and Wikipedia has a lot more information if you don't want to read your textbook.
